Anyone roto meat directly over the coals?

I see a lot of post where it is indirect cooking but anyone go direct over the coals?
I am not a collector, but I do have a small collection.

I haven't done that, but it sounds like an interesting idea to try. My thought is that the surface would cook way too fast and the inside would not get cooked enough.

You can do this, but it is low and slow, about 20 briquettes per hour, for several hours (3 or 4), no charcoal on the sides (only underneath) & no lid.

FWIW, I stick to indirect and closed lid.  And the video is maddeningly slow for me.  So, you can skip to about 13 minute mark.

I have done it with a big hunk of beef.  Turned out pretty good.
Photobucket has been trying my patience lately, so I can't be bothered posting pics.

I also do it to finish-off a whole bird.

I'll sometimes spread a few coals between the baskets or piles so the fats dips on them and makes some smoke, especially for wings in the basket

Absolutely.  I have a Carson Rodizio kit, which I use with a 22 inch Weber kettle.  I cook directly over charcoal with no issues.
