@MikeRocksTheRed, my opinion is to use all Weber genuine parts.   I also love what Hell Fire did with his WebrLyter

Anyone ever put a handle on the front of a 26er's lid? I read somewhere recently where someone suggested this and it makes a lot of sense to me.

You still need to lift the lid off and slid back. Actually, quite easy to drop the lid into the bale but hard to bring it back up and on the bowl with just a front mount handle. So I am not sure how useful that would be.   Here is 1ROW's 26er with a hinge and a front handle. On page 4.  http://weberkettleclub.com/forums/weber-kettles-accessories/show-us-your-26er!/45/

After thinking about it more, if I was going to do it I'd put one on either side, since I crack one side to drop a chunk of wood or a scoop of lump in, and the other to check the meat. I know it sounds lazy, but my right shoulder isn't getting any younger, and I like to be as efficient as possible for faster temp recovery. Thanks.

@kettlecook , this is a pic of a custom 26er modelled after the One Touch Platinum.
I had the opportunity to buy this, but the seller (GaryS) was asking too much for my budget.
He also had the pictured roti ring custom made from SS.

You can see what I said above concerning extra handles, but I see that Gary from way up north decided to sell his grill, after all. He sure tricked it out. I'd love to put mine in some kind of cart. I've actually had to cut a little off of the front leg to try to level mine, and I just have the stock stainless grate. Thanks.

I'll test this theory with a piece of duct tape as a handle in front. I don't see any reason a front handle wouldn't work.

The only reason you have to lift up currently is because that's the only option available with a handle on the very top. I could be wrong but I'll find out.

Here's some pics of the aforementioned front handle on the 26er for you @kettlecook. Definitely a worthwhile mod be it in use with the lidbail or the unknown hinge.

I am not opposed to any mods done to a kettle.
However, the mods that I have done to a kettle are simple and straight-forward .... Adding a ring and bucket to the ash collection area.

I personally prefer to make "items" that will enhance and complement the cooking experience on a kettle .... i.e. charcoal baskets, and side tables.

I can say this in conclusion ... I gleaned 99.9% of the information and inspiration from the great members here on the WKC.  Thank you for that!   :D

Great tables, and those coal baskets look really useful.

Same deal with the ranch which has a front handle.  It's really easy to use just the front handle to move the lid into the lid bale, but tricky to put the lid back down without using the other handle.

@ MacEggs - All worthwhile mods and ideas. Nice to see them all together as I have missed few of them.

#4.  Reshaping the stock taco handle.
I had this idea for awhile and decided to try it out. I am happy with how it turned out.

Mr.CPHo

I like the reshaped handle, @greenweb.
