Using A Q220 On A Wood Cart?
« on: March 13, 2017, 03:13:15 AM »
Do you guys think a Q220 would fit on this cart that I refinished with Tung Oil or is it best to use the cart that was designed for it?

Tung oil is an oil that is super easy to apply, just sand and wipe on.  It's not a sealant like a spar varnish.  Not sure what you mean about the Q side tables.

I'm just wondering if the Q needs to be locked in to be used safely or if it would work on top of this cart.  Here's the cart as I got it-

The cart's that Weber makes for the Q have area's the legs lock into to keep it from moving and tipping over when opening.  A Q will fit on your cart Joe but I would recommend using some non slip matting underneath the legs for safety.   The stuff is sold at Walmart, Amazon and hardware stores.  Very thin and can be cut into very small pieces so it would not even be visible underneath the legs.

I sit my Q on the table on my back porch frequently.  Never had an issue with tipping, it's pretty stable.

My family uses a q on the table all the time. The base on them is so heavy that you're not gonna knock it off the table under normal use.

If your talking about the Weber Sidekick tables, I don't believe there was any special fire retarding treatment on them. I  have a NOS in the box and it says "made of Hard Rock Maple and can be used as a cutting board". If it is food safe, it is not treated. Just like the newer resin tables, they were designed to attach with an inch of spacing between the kettle and the table.  Enough so there is no fire ignition danger.
