Rescue Operation: Red Imperial Sequoia
« on: April 03, 2013, 11:28:44 AM »
I thought I would share the rebuild on this as I go. Here's how it looked when I got it.
Here's how my agent "N" found it. As you can see it's a basket case. Jude picked it up for me during another kettle rescue.

I have already disassembled it and cleaned it, then fixed the bolts with lock washers because it was so rickety. I also flipped one of the top boards that was loose and damaged, then reset it with the original nails. I thought about flipping them all, but that may be overkill since I would still have to sand. When the job is finished I don't want it to look new, just cared for.

Boy, you've got your work cut out there
Any chance of getting a pic of how the ashpan holder attaches to the table?

A quick lid-swap will take it from basket-case to cherry-mobile. Keep the pics coming - it's a great rescue story.

Lid does have some battle scars, but I bet a new handle and some 0000 lovin' itl look good. Thanks for sharing the pics Duke. Is it gonna be a cooker?

Thanks everyone! Craig, as long as I have it I will cook on it, but I will probably be passing it on because I have some other projects on the way already.

No, I did a rainy day rescue today and am catching up on work. I will not be able to touch it tomorrow either. Maybe saturday, maybe. :(
