It's not an illusion of any kind.  It's a part of the enamel finish in the manufacturing process (guessing by mistake) where the surface looks like an orange or lime peel.  Perhaps there was some kind of vibration on the line as they went into the oven to bake the enamel?  Whatever the case, it's cool as all get out.
Looking for: Red MBH 26"(The Aristocrat), Chestnut-coppertone (The Estate), Glen-blue (The Imperial), and The Plainsman.

cool! My thumbscrew doesn’t have any peel. Is it random? Or is it typically found on certain years?
