Get this in the Before and After thread @Jeff - perfect example of RRR. You got lucky with that top handle, These lids are heavy, and one of the first things to go are those welds. Kettle Karma in action.

The legs were heavily oxidized.  Sanded em with 220 grit, followed by 0000 steel wool and Dawn.

Jeff, what is the purpose of using Dawn with the steel wool? Does it act as a lubricant or does it have polishing qualities?

I wanted a ash pan with leg cutouts for a 22 and was thinking of getting one of 26 pans and cutting it to shape.
Ereplacements has the 26 pan for $11, no too bad. $13 shipping  not to good. They only have 1 in stock. Wonder if this part is going to go obsolete. And Weber has the gall to rename their kettles "Original"! Ha

That is a beautiful 26er, love that patina. Well done indeed!!

Darko

Damn! I just want that 26'er. It looks so great.

Dawn is a good degreaser, and a very mild lubricant.

Jeff

@Cellar2ful , exactly what @Darko said.
This left the legs with a factory like finish. If you wanted them to shine even more, similar to a chrome finish, follow up with a metal polish like Mothers or Flitz.

Love the look of this 26r.  Great cleanup and suggestion for the ask pan.

Thanks @Jeff & @Darko. I have utilized the step down sanding with different grits and steel wool but will add try adding the Dawn.  Up till now, I have had to guess as to what that finish looked like.  Thanks to @captjoe06, I now have a set of NOS legs and have a comparative to shoot for when restoring legs.  Love the patina on the old faded blacks.
