Put a pork butt on for pre-thanksgivings meal. The in-laws will get in around dinner time tomorrow
We'll see how this comes out in the morning, right now too much whiskey and beer and I need to go to sleep...I'll leave the rest up to the Chief!

Hell yeah. Just getting off work, having a couple myself. Let's see some smoke coming out of that chief!

Woke up to find the Chief performing dutifully

This is about seven hours in

Temp was creeping up a little bit, especially after I lifted the lid to check on things. I only had one vent open to begin with, so just cranked it down a little. This thing doesn't need to be served until 6-7 so I've got the time go slow

Booze & BBQ are a great combination and a wonderful way to spend the night with a stick burner.

Thats an interesting twist on the snake, using the vortex.

Have you tried it with Lump yet?

Id like to ask a favor!

If you dont mind can you take a pic of your set up when you remove the roast & shut it down?

Id like to see how far your snake slithered around the kettle, and some other details.

That and Im working on another system that'll make the "snake" more like a "Anaconda"...so im using you to do research.

HFG
I'll certainly get some pics afterwards.
I run this set up all the time, I think it's one of the suggested ways to use the vortex in their marketing.
It does make more of an anaconda than snake, but it burns for a long time and I never need to worry about it running out. My pork butts tend to take 12-15 hours and I've never even come close to running out of coals.
After I pull the pork off I shut down the kettle and use the left over coals as the base of the next snake.
I like how easy it is to set up, just dump the coals around the vortex, and it seems to work well in a 26er where you need a bigger snake to get the kettle hot.
