Found some black stuff on raw ribs. Safe to cook/eat?
« on: June 04, 2016, 10:21:12 AM »
I was prepping some ribs when I noticed this black stuff. Looks like dried blood in veins. Or a worm. Or ????

Anyone know what it is and if the ribs are still safe to eat? Some kids will be eating them and I want to make sure they are safe.
Looking for Blue Mastertouch or Blue Performer.

Currently have: Performer (Green); 22.5 Mastertouch (Red); 26.75 OTG;  22.5 WSM; 18.5 WSM; Jumbo Joe; SJS (Green Uline); SJG (used for Mini WSM); Blue SS Performer; Blue MBH; Summit

Kind of looks like blood capillaries from the pics. Like a bad trim job from the butcher. Can you cut them out? If the ribs don't smell bad, I would be ok, but if you're aren't sure or uncomfortable with them.... Your call.

I actually took them back to the store. The butcher said they were dried veins or tendons and not to worry about it but he also gave me a new rack.
