Maple Wood for smoking???
« on: October 08, 2014, 09:49:05 AM »
Gentlemen,

The city cut down a maple tree in my front yard this summer.  Looking at different types online, I believe that it is a Norway Maple.  Has anyone ever used maple for smoking?  I know that Norway maples aren't as good for syrup as sugar maple trees.   I'm wondering if the Norway will make a good tasting smoke.  Any advice would be appreciated.  Otherwise, I'll just throw some sacrificial meat on the grill and find out after it's done seasoning.

Absolutely for maple......I have some I'm hoarding for special cookups......
Nice easy flavoring as far as what I've cooked up with it......

PS: Doesn't quite come out like maple bacon or something you'd buy commercially that was done & 'marked' as maple smoked.....I think they add maple syrup to those things..... :o

Those are maple blocks set up on a chain for pork butt........

Maple is good. I use it often with poultry. I offer to trim up the neighbors sugar maple to keep my supply up.
