Vortex chicken wings
« on: June 03, 2014, 02:57:20 AM »
Weber

Finally got the chance to use my Vortex!

Kept it simple, filled with heatbeads, small side up. Used the looft lighter to get the beads going and voila!

Added the chicken wings and a chunk of apricot wood.
Tried Mad Hunky Hot Whang!, Plowboys Yardbird, BPS Jallelujah Bacon Jalepeno rub, and BPS Little Louie's Seasoned Garlic Salt.

Some of the best wings I've had! The skin was beautiful and crispy, the meat super juicy, and a great smokey flavour. Only had to turn them once (but didn't have the Vortex quite centered so the ones at the bottom got a bit more heat :()

That's a neat trick. Do you think it was better than other methods you have used?

Sent from another Galaxy using mental telepathy.

If it breathes, we can cook it!

Hey Joe, yeah I think it was. Probably the best crispy texture I have been able to get on the skin without direct grilling (or frying).

Really easy too.
