Favorite Commercial BBQ Rubs?
« on: November 04, 2017, 08:26:57 PM »
I have made some really good rubs, but like trying some commercial examples from time to time.

What are some of your favorite commercial BBQ/seasoning rubs?

Iíve had good luck Penzyís rubs like BBQ2000 and 3000.  They are a good base to build from and add whatever else.

Where do I start? I've got a cabinet full of them.

There are a few local ones that I really like: Hogs 'N Heat, Rustic Rub, Code 3 and Buckhead. And there's a spice shop in Soulard Market at STL that has a few really nice concoctions that they mix up and sell in small containers.

A friend turned me onto a rub from Texas called Rudy's Rub. He buys several at a time and shares them. It's good on just about anything.

Killer Hogs rub is excellent.

I sometimes use Corky's and Rendezvous out of Tennessee, or one of the K.C. rubs, like Arthur Bryant or Gates.

My go to commercial rub is Pappyís. Itís similar to Lawryís but better. Use it on Tri-tips and whole chickens and itís great.

Pappy's Choice Seasoning (32 Oz Professional Pack) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B002ODE1PQ/ref=cm_sw_r_sms_c_api_SLY.zb4XQN3Q6

Rubís swampboys bbq sauce, vinegar sauce, and his rub are all fantastic.

Hogs n heat products are also fantastic. Their all purpose seasoning goes great on everything. By far my favorite all purpose besides Tonyís.

Speaking of Tonyís, thatís still my favorite. Add a little brown sugar and itís a great simple rub.

I really like famous Daveís rich and sassy on ribs and in beans.

Montgomery inn is my favorite on chicken.

Iíll make bbq chicken using open pit once in awhile just to bring me back.

Canít go wrong with Killer Hogs rub and sauce . His new vinegar sauce is money too. Oakridge rubs are little pricier but really good too. Love Victory Lanes rubs and they have a great variety from all seasoning rub , bbq rub , and finishing rubs. Just got the jalapeŮo season all rub and itís fantastic. For a all purpose base seasoning that works well from veggies to fish , Heaven Made products called Its Incredible and thatís the only way to describe it.

Iíve grown up on Pappyís (being originally from the Central Valley). A lot of people really like it. However, Iíve really gotten burned out on it to the point that I bought a small shaker 3 years ago when I moved back to California (for nostalgia) and have only used it once.

My friends and family (and local butchers) put it on everything. The red label is very salt heavy. I will say their Fajita seasoning is really good though.

Thanks everyone...
@wessonjb I ordered the sampler from Oakridge because I have really been wanting to try their stuff for a while. Iíll see what I like and then commit to a larger quantity. Plowboys and Killer Hogs are next on my ďtryĒ list.
